What is Zinc?

Zinc is found in every cell of our body and influences a variety of activities ranging from growth to immune response to reproduction. It is required for the production of genetic material (DNA) and proteins. The release of hormones, and the transmission of nerve impulses between the brain and the body. How much this do I need per day?

The amount of it you require each day varies depending on your age, gender, life stage, and other factors such as your food. The DRV* for healthy people (over 18) is 7.5-16.3 mg of zinc per day, depending on whether or not their meals are high in phytates. This is due to phytates, which are present in cereal grains and seeds, legumes, and certain vegetables. Bond to zinc and prevent it from being absorbed by our bodies.
