A Strawberry fruit (genus Fragaria) is a flowering plant genus in the rose family (Rosaceae) with over 20 edible species. The fruits are high in vitamin C and can be eaten raw as a dessert fruit, used as a pastry or pie filling or preserved in a variety of methods. Strawberry fruit shortcake is a classic American delicacy prepared with fresh strawberries, sponge cake, and whipped cream.
