What is Niacin?
Niacin, commonly known as nicotinic acid, is an organic molecule and a type of vitamin B3 that is necessary for human health. It is made by plants and animals from the amino acid tryptophan. It is a form of B3. Niacin is available as an oral tablet and an oral extended-release tablet on prescription. Over-the-counter versions are also available. This is marketed as a prescription medicine under the brand names Niacor and Niaspan. It can also be purchased as a generic medicine. Generic medications are frequently less expensive. They may not be available in every strength or form as the brand-name version in some circumstances.
